Shooting at Howe Park Injures Four People Injured in the Arden-Arcade Section of Sacramento County
Sacramento County deputies are looking into a gun violence incident that unfolded on the evening of April 18 at Howe Community Park at the moment officers were dissolving an unauthorized event of a crowd of several hundred.
Background
Deputies initially responded to the park just after half past six in the evening after learning of people potentially armed with concealed firearms. Following that, a second caller reported describing a reported physical confrontation unfolding inside the park.
A sheriff's airship scanned the area from the air but was unable Cottage Way shooting Sacramento to locate the reported altercation. Regardless, it was apparent that a massive group had assembled at the park in an unauthorized manner.
The Moment Gunfire Erupted
Responding units started clearing the unauthorized gathering by setting up around the park's perimeter and issuing commands over loudspeakers ordering those gathered to clear out. Around 15 minutes were given for attendees to disperse.
As the crowd was being cleared that an estimated 20 to 25 shots rang out. The sudden gunfire sent the crowd running in all directions. Law enforcement wasted no time in looking for those injured.
Four Victims Hospitalized
Altogether, four victims were discovered with shooting injuries. The shooting victims — consisting of one woman and three men each apparently in their 20s — were transported to Sacramento area hospitals. Hospital staff confirmed that two were treated for serious injuries, one of the four had moderate gunshot wounds, and one suffered minor injuries. Thankfully, each of the four victims was stable.
Sacramento fire crews assisted at the location and helped triage the four victims on location.
Evidence at the Scene
The primary shooting scene seemed to have occurred along Cottage Way near the Home Depot store on the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Detectives discovered additional shell casings on the Cottage Way roadway. Round impacts were discovered in the wrought iron fence adjacent to the Home Depot. These discoveries confirmed that at least one shooter had been discharging rounds toward the south from the Cottage Way area aimed at the Home Depot. That Home Depot location was put under lockdown as a precaution. CSI investigators and detectives stayed at the location late into the evening.
Suspect Vehicle Located
Intelligence received via scanner audio indicated that a Kia had been detained in Solano County. Four people were stopped and detained. Law enforcement units were en route to collect those detained to bring the suspects back for formal questioning. Video evidence established that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
